Keeping the shoulders in balance and operating properly is critical to avoid pain and injury. Big problems occur when your rotator cuff muscles become to weak for your pressing muscles.
We use a few great ways to strengthen the shoulder rotator including specific isolated movements that particularly target the shoulder external rotator muscles.
This strategy also helps to maintain good posture by offsetting the internal rotation position common for corporate professionals that spend long periods sitting at the computer.
In this video Yani & Rad demonstrate and teach the beginner level shoulder external rotation exercise used in the Foundation movement System program at Unity Gym.
This is a great starting exercise because it teaches good control and isolation with limited movement in the rest of the shoulder. Meaning you can easily stimulate the target muscles properly.
